Sector noroccidental del Sistema Ibérico. Valdezcaray (Ezcaray) es la estación alpina de referencia del valle del Ebro occidental; hacia el sur, la Sierra de Neila burgalesa ofrece circos glaciares y lagunas que en invierno se recorren con raquetas y esquís de travesía.

Vertiente riojana del Sistema Ibérico: el San Lorenzo (2.270 m, techo de La Rioja) y la estación de Valdezcaray, el Parque Natural de la Sierra de Cebollera (23.640 ha, declarado en 1995) y los cañones calizos del sur riojano con grandes colonias de rapaces rupícolas.

    Parque Natural declarado en 1995 (23.640 ha), con centro de interpretación en Villoslada de Cameros. Presencia de lobo ibérico y desmán ibérico: zonas y épocas sensibles. Régimen concreto de uso público no verificado.

    sep–jun; verano muy caluroso en el valle del Cidacos

    Restrictions and regulations

    Zona incluida en la ZEPA 'Peñas de Arnedillo, Peña Isasa y Peñalmonte', dentro de la Reserva de la Biosfera de los Valles del Jubera, Leza, Cidacos y Alhama (declarada el 9 de julio de 2003). Al ser ZEPA por rapaces rupícolas, es muy probable que existan vetos temporales de escalada por nidificación: NO he podido verificar sectores ni fechas concretas y no deben publicarse sin confirmación en el BOR.

    La vertiente riojana está incluida en la ZEPA 'Sierras de Demanda, Urbión, Cebollera y Cameros'. La estación de Valdezcaray da acceso rodado a cota alta; fuera de pistas, terreno de montaña invernal sin control de aludes.
