Valle glaciar entre la sierra de Tormantos y la vertiente suroeste de Gredos, con la Reserva Natural Garganta de los Infiernos (6.927,5 ha, decreto 132/1994) y sus marmitas de gigante de Los Pilones. Once municipios, con Piornal como núcleo alto.

    jun–sep para agua; el resto del año como ruta de senderismo. La reserva recibe 1.500–2.000 mm anuales y hay nieve frecuente en cumbres en invierno, con caudales fuertes en primavera.

    Restrictions and regulations

    Reserva Natural declarada el 14 de noviembre de 1994 (Decreto 132/1994), 6.927,5 ha, entre 600 y 2.000 m. No se ha podido verificar en fuente oficial el régimen actual de baño en Los Pilones, cupos de aparcamiento ni si el descenso deportivo está permitido dentro de la reserva: es el punto de verificación crítico de esta zona.
