Alta montaña galaico-leonesa en torno a Peña Trevinca (2.127 m), techo de Galicia y de Zamora, con el mayor lago glaciar de la península (Sanabria, 318,7 ha) y, al sur, la Sierra de la Culebra, referencia europea de observación de lobo ibérico.

    Restrictions and regulations

    Parque Natural Lago de Sanabria y Sierras Segundera y de Porto (32.302 ha, declarado en 1978 y ampliado en 2017), con centro de interpretación en el monasterio de San Martín de Castañeda y casa del parque en Rabanillo. Es habitual que el acceso rodado a la Laguna de los Peces se regule en verano, pero no lo he podido verificar (el portal de patrimonio natural de la Junta no resolvió).

    todo el año; los avistamientos se concentran al amanecer y al atardecer, mejor en otoño e invierno

    Restrictions and regulations

    Reserva Regional de Caza desde 1996 (67.340 ha) y LIC de 61.305 ha: hay días de caza que condicionan el acceso. Los incendios de junio y julio de 2022 arrasaron del orden de 25.000 y 36.000 ha y alteraron gravemente el paisaje y la fauna. No consta declaración de parque natural (contestada localmente).
