El mayor espacio protegido de España y el segundo de Europa: 214.336 ha en el nordeste de Jaén, 23 municipios, reserva de la biosfera desde 1983 y ZEPA desde 1988. Altitudes de 500 m a 2.107 m (Cerro de las Empanadas) y nacimiento del Guadalquivir y del Segura.

Restrictions and regulations
Ruta clásica desde la piscifactoría hasta la laguna de Valdeazores, pasando por la Cerrada de Elías y el Salto de los Órganos. La sobrefrecuentación está identificada como una amenaza del parque; existen limitaciones de acceso rodado y aparcamiento en temporada alta que no he podido verificar en detalle (ver dudas).
