Sierra Morena occidental: el Parque Natural Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche (186.827 ha, 28 municipios de Huelva, segundo espacio protegido de Andalucía) y la Sierra Norte de Sevilla, ambos dentro de la reserva de la biosfera Dehesas de Sierra Morena. Dehesa, castañares y karst.

    Dentro del parque natural y de la reserva de la biosfera Dehesas de Sierra Morena; el parque tiene la Carta Europea de Turismo Sostenible. La Gruta de las Maravillas se visita de forma guiada con gestión municipal propia (no verificado el aforo).

    oct–may. Los veranos son más suaves que en la campiña pero los inviernos traen heladas frecuentes.

    Monumento natural desde 2003 (121,65 ha). Alberga águila real, cigüeña negra y otras rapaces, lo que en espacios similares implica restricciones estacionales; no he podido verificar si existe un veto formal por nidificación aquí (ver dudas).
