Dos parques naturales contiguos al sur de Picos: Redes (377 km², Reserva de la Biosfera desde 2001, con 42 rutas oficiales y más de 200 km señalizados) y Ponga, con hayedos, desfiladeros calizos y muy poca presión turística comparada con la costa asturiana.

Amieva, concejo colindante del desfiladero, figura entre los citados en la regulación asturiana de escalada en áreas críticas para rapaces rupícolas (Resolución de 15-11-2022, BOPA 29-11-2022). Verificar sectores y fechas antes de programar escalada.
