What Gorbeia, Urkiola y Duranguesado is

Núcleo montañero de Bizkaia y Álava: el Parque Natural de Gorbeia (20.016 ha, el mayor de Euskadi, con el karst de Itxina y la cueva de Mairuelegorreta) y el Parque Natural de Urkiola (5.768 ha, Anboto 1.331 m), que concentra las escuelas de escalada de Atxarte y Baltzola y una regulación de escalada por nidificación bien documentada.

    Restrictions and regulations

    Parque Natural de Urkiola con regulación de escalada por nidificación. La pared este del Anboto tiene periodo de restricción prorrogado (según fuentes secundarias, hasta el 15 de septiembre) por la presencia de alimoche: dato no verificado en fuente oficial. El senderismo por la cresta no está afectado por esas vedas, pero conviene confirmarlo antes de publicarlo.

    todo el año en la escuela de Atxarte; primavera y otoño son los mejores por temperatura

    Restrictions and regulations

    Dentro del Parque Natural de Urkiola (Decreto 275/1989; ZEC desde 2016), con regulación de escalada por nidificación desde 2011. La escuela de Atxarte está autorizada todo el año. En cambio, en Mugarra (el extraplomo del espolón oeste de la vertiente sur hasta la primera cueva) y en la vertiente sur del cordal de Alluitz entre Artola y Larrano la escalada solo se permite de septiembre a diciembre, y está prohibida de enero a agosto.

    Restrictions and regulations

    Parque Natural declarado por decreto el 21 de junio de 1994, con dos centros de interpretación (Sarria, en Álava, y Areatza, en Bizkaia). El macizo kárstico de Itxina tiene más de 500 cavidades catalogadas: terreno con simas y grietas, peligroso con niebla o nieve.
