Tramo central de la costa guipuzcoana, con Zarautz como la playa de iniciación al surf más consolidada del País Vasco y una densísima oferta de escuelas. Hacia el oeste, Zumaia y Deba añaden el flysch del Geoparque de la Costa Vasca (UNESCO), que soporta coasteering y actividades de costa además del surf.

    What it's like

    Playa encajada entre acantilados de flysch. Las olas rebotan contra el acantilado y forman rampas de despegue aprovechadas para maniobras; es una playa citada como adecuada para niveles de iniciación e intermedio junto a Zarautz, Gaztetape y Santiago de Deba. La presencia de plataforma rocosa de flysch exige cuidado con la marea.

    Restrictions and regulations

    Se encuentra dentro del Geoparque Mundial UNESCO de la Costa Vasca (Mutriku-Deba-Zumaia); no consta prohibición específica de surf, pero las actividades comerciales guiadas se canalizan a través de la red de entidades colaboradoras del Geoparque.

    Playa de pendiente suave con picos de izquierda y derecha que cambian según los bancos de arena, con olas de largo recorrido aptas para surfistas de todos los niveles. Citada oficialmente entre las playas idóneas para aprender.

    What it's like

    Beach break de arena de ~2,5 km, sin fondo de roca en la zona central. En primavera-verano olas de aproximadamente 0,5–1,5 m con agua a 15–20 °C; en otoño-invierno el tamaño sube a 1–3 m y el nivel exigido pasa a medio-avanzado. Para principiantes se recomienda marea media-baja, cuando las olas rompen más suaves cerca de la orilla.

    Restrictions and regulations

    La ordenanza municipal reguladora del uso del arenal zonifica la playa: seis espacios para surf u otros deportes acuáticos y seis para bañistas, separados por señalización (bandera roja/azul para la zona de deportes acuáticos). El Ayuntamiento, con el visto bueno de Costas, concede permisos para la práctica de surf/bodyboard. Los canales de acceso balizados para embarcaciones y tablas están prohibidos al baño.
