Los dos grandes macizos calizos de la divisoria vasca: Aralar (208 km², dos tercios en Navarra, con Txindoki como cumbre emblema) y Aizkorri-Aratz (15.919 ha, Parque Natural desde 2006, con Aizkorri y el túnel de San Adrián en el Camino de Santiago).

Parque Natural de Aizkorri-Aratz, declarado en 2006 y gestionado conjuntamente por las Diputaciones de Álava y Gipuzkoa; también ZEC. Presencia de águila real, alimoche y buitre leonado: previsibles limitaciones a la escalada en cortados, no verificadas en detalle. El túnel de San Adrián es Bien Cultural y parte del Camino de Santiago.
